I got to run visuals for Matt, aka Delta Orb, in a black box theatre which marked a big step for me in applying what I’ve been learning with TouchDesigner. I created generative visuals that I could manipulate in real time using TD Ableton, allowing the visuals to respond to the music.
To bring everything to the screen, I siphoned the TouchDesigner visuals into Resolume, where the visuals were mapped onto the screen with multiple projectors. While this wasn’t about pushing boundaries, it was a huge learning experience in integrating different tools for live visuals and understanding the workflow between TouchDesigner, Ableton, and Resolume.
This was my first time running visuals for a set and I’m excited to keep refining my approach—building more control, flexibility, and depth into my visuals for future shows. I’ll be back in this theatre on April 4th running visuals for my friend Ryan, aka RYJU, who will be headlining 40.4 Festival. We will be using 3 computers, one with Ableton sending signals to the others using TouchDesigner and Beam. This last show only half of the screen was available, the next one will be 360. We’re working together to conceptualize the show from start to finish and deliver a level performance that this space hasn’t seen before.
